The big news starting 2022 is that there are more open jobs than ever in history and more jobs than people looking.
In the US – Over 11 Million Open Jobs and only 8.6 Million Job Seekers
In Canada – Over 1 Million open Jobs however 1.1 Million Job seekers
Canadian employers are in a better position than American employers as there are still more people looking for jobs than jobs available, however this is expected to change in the next few months as the Omicron variant passes and companies gear up to grow in 2022.
Both US and Canadian companies are aggressively offering higher wages and more benefits to attract the few qualified people available. The good thing for US employers looking is there is a record number of people quitting their current jobs for a better job in a phenomenon called the “Great Resignation”.
In Canada, the resignation trend is just starting. A study completed in December 2021 shows 62% of respondents, Canadian employees in both white and blue collar jobs intend to change jobs in 2022 for a better one. The two big reasons people say they are changing jobs is for more money and flexibility.
When writing your job postings make sure to include:
- The salary or wages clearly stated - Job postings with salary information get 70% more applicants.
- If you offer flexibility such as work from home, a hybrid situation, staggered hours, choice of shift, pets or children in the office etc.
- If you have benefits, clearly state them in detail.
- If you offer more than the legal vacation time.
Your job postings should be just as well written as your ads for your products and services.
You are selling the opportunity and your organization to people who have a lot of choices available.
